You can use your Google Account on your mobile device in a few different ways.

How to Access Gmail in iPhone Mail Using IMAP

Use the following steps to get Gmail on your phone using the Gmail IMAP server settings:

  1. Enable IMAP for Gmail.
  2. On the iPhone home screen, open Settings.
  3. Go to Passwords & Accounts > Add Account, then choose Google.

  1. These screens are named differently on older versions of the Mail app. Choose Mail >Contacts > Calendars, then go to Add Account > Google Mail.
  2. Enter your Gmail email address, then tap Next.
  3. Enter your Gmail password, then tap Next.

  1. If you don’t know your password, reset your Gmail password to make a new one.
  2. If a message about 2-step verificationappears, follow the directions on the screen. You’ll only see this if 2-step authentication is enabled for your Gmail account.
  3. Turn on the Mail toggle switch to ensure that your email can be used. You can also enable other items to sync contacts, calendar events, and notes.
  4. Press the home button to exit to the home screen.

If you set up your Gmail account to work with other email addresses, use these to send from iPhone Mail.

How to Access Gmail in iPhone Mail Using POP

The Gmail POP server settings are needed to use Gmail on your phone over POP.

  1. Enable POP for Gmailif it’s not already turned on. Do this from a web browser using the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab of your Gmail account.
  2. Open the Settings app and go to Passwords & Accounts > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account.
  3. Enter your name, email address, and password, then tap Next.

  2. In the Incoming Mail Serversection, enter the Gmail POP server settings:
    • Host Name: gmail.com
    • User Name: Your full email address
    • Password: The password to your email account

If 2-step verification is enabled, generate an app password for your Gmail account and use the app password instead of your account password.

  1. In the Outgoing Mail Serversection, enter the Gmail SMTP server settings:
    • Host Name: gmail.com
    • User Name: Your full email address
    • Password: The password to your email account
  2. Tap Save.
  3. Select the Gmail account you just added.
  4. Tap gmail.comtowards the bottom of the page, and then again at the top of the next page.
  5. Turn on the Use SSL toggle switch.
  6. In the Server Porttext box, delete the existing number and enter 465.

Select Done.

Depending on the POP download settings in your Gmail account, you may be able to delete an email on your iPhone and have it remain in your Gmail account. Adjust this feature by changing the When messages are accessed with POP setting on this page of your Gmail account.

How to Set Up Gmail With IMAP

If your email program is not listed above, open your application of choice and go to the screen where additional accounts are added. If the application gives you the option to select Gmail, follow the automatic setup process.

To find instructions on how to set up an email client correctly, perform a Google search with the name of the email client plus the phrase Gmail IMAP. For example, search for Mozilla Thunderbird Gmail IMAP if you use the Thunderbird email client.

Otherwise, if the email client does not present Gmail as a default option, you may be prompted to enter the server information manually. For Gmail, use the following information:
